Purpose of the Mission Statement
Our feelings behind the mission statement was that we wanted it to be short and concise so that it could hook people into looking more closely at our organization and what we are doing. We also wanted it to have meaning to our potential donors and give them the feel that we are really trying to help these people out because that is our main focus with this whole project. The mission statement is suppose to be why we are doing what we are doing and how we can get up each day and devote the time and energy to this project and that reason is what we wanted our mission statement to display. We also want our mission statement to be something that our potential customers will look at and then have the desire to use our service because it will help them achieve their goals. We want it to be inspiring to stir emotions to help create excitement about accomplishing our goal.
Process of making the Mission Statement
We have spent the past month or more discussing different language we wanted to include and exclude from our mission statement. This has been a long process and very deading to me in that we seemed to be making little to no progress from week to week until now. Today in class we spent the entire time hashing out our mission statement. This was a very interesting discussion because there were some very heated debates going on about word usage. The reason for this is that we all have a sense as to why we are involved with La Ceiba which influences what we want our mission statement to be. Therefore, problems arose when we had a couple different people have very strong feelings for certain words that were in the mission statement and being talked about being taken out or words that were not in the mission statement and the person wanted them to be included. The last debate was the most heated in that it got into the cause of the problem we are trying to solve and the different thought processes and theories as to what causes people to react the way they react and societies to form the way they form. However, we finally agreed upon a mission statement that I believe everyone is on board with which will now allow us to move forward into more logistical type problems of running La Ceiba.
